indirect blowing off relief valve?

I have a Bock 50 gal. indirect that seems to have a pinhole in the coil. The problem started when my relief valve was blowing off. But since my expansion tank was changed in march of 03. I immediatley changed the fast fill from the previous watts 1156 to a taco 3350 with a by-pass to use when purging/filling. Then it went off again. Since it was new years eve, I said it will have to wait until tomorrow. I shut off a ball valve on the feed and return of the storage tank loop, and disconnected the aquastat wires in the relay box. Today I drained the tank(dhw), and opened the boiler drain I would normally use to purge the loop. I then filled the DHW tank and in less than 2 minutes, the water was coming out. My question is what should I do next? It was originally installed in 1999. How long are the warranties and would this be covered? What would cause this?

    relief valve

If this valve is on the bock tank than it only blows if the potable or drinking water gets to hot 212 degrees or has 150 pounds of presure. City water can have that much presure. Sounds like the boiler relief is blowing. If the boiler is reading 30# presure or 212 temp its the boiler that is the problem. If the boiler has too much psi the air in the new tank might need adjustment. Just a wild guess.

    It sounds more....

like you have a bad T&P valve. the boiler relief vale goes of at 30# if its the one on the heater 100XL replace it. They do go bad. Bocks carry a lifetime warranty.kpc

    First some Questions

Which reilf was was leaking ? The boiler(next to the feed or on the boiler it self) .....or on the bock indirects relief ?

Does it leak constant or only when the tank or boiler is heating up? Or when does it leak ?

When you shut off the return and supply to the indirect (the pipes the connect the boiler to the indirect which heats up the indrects coil) does the leak stop ?

conclusion of my own original question

I should have made it more clear that the relief valve that was blowing off was on the boiler. I called the Bock rep in Ma.,Patty and she asked for the model and serial #. She said she would get back to me and let me know if it was under warranty or not. She responded quickly and said Bock is closed today, and therefore will not be able to find out until monday if it is covered. It would have been around an 800$ gamble I did not want to take. So I called my oil company, they came and changed the boiler relief and said for a couple hours labor they would replace the tank. Same exact tank, two hours labor, two 3/4 copper couplings and we have hot water for the weekend. Not that Bock is a bad company, I just think the rep should be able to know (the warranty conditions)or at least take one for the team. After all whats the deal with a lifetime warranty if this could happen or that must be the limited part.?

    Sandy,

Depending on the date code there may be a different warranty. My customer missed by a couple of months and no warranty.

The early bock indirects only had a five year. It is what they call a glass lined tank and coil. If a piece of the ceramic coating chips off the steel rusts. Expansion and contraction, varying water temperatures and pressures all have an impact on this. Water quality may play a part too.

Every ones water heater leaks eventually. The Bock was a good value for the money because it came with the pump.[armstrong] I put an awful lot of bock indirects in. Unfortunately I've had to replace a few.

hate to beat a dead horse

but are you sure it is the tank. Yes if it has a hole it will build psi. lets say the new extrol tank has 25# in it would the system overfill? Or maybe it lost all of its air, it would be like it's not even there. This would also give this problem.
