Do New Small Efficient Boilers Last As Long As Big Old Ones?

They say the new efficient boilers make steam faster partly because the walls of the sections are thinner. The downside is that they don't last as long. They say they see problems with most of them after 15 to 20 years, requiring section replacements. Sometimes they see problems after only 5 years.
The big old beomoth residential boilers seem to go on and on almost forever.
Is my oil supplier giving me the straight scoop, or does he want his customers to keep their older less efficient boilers so they need to buy more oil?

They certainly need more TLC
The mind set when installing these new boilders and systems needs to be revised. Cleaning the entire system and then maintaining a treatment program will prevent many chemistry problems in such systems. If this is done, the efficiency they enjoy will be maintained.
The old cast iron boilers had similar interior problems, but they were so oversized and heavily built, that they would still work without a lot of care, in comparison to what these new one's require. Losing a boiler after two years of opperation is preventable and should not happen.
There are also a multitude of different metals and components in these new systems that to state it simply, "They need care, cleaning and treatment." If this isn't done, problems jump out at you like jack-in-the-boxes. Don't let this happen to you and your customers.0 -
boiler
if the boiler is properly sized and properly piped it will give you many years of excellent service.
the important thing is that it is properly piped. dont take the lowest bid it might not be for the best.get a copy of dans book "the lost art of steam heating" you will find it the books and more section. he explains everthing you need to know about your system. you will be better informed and able to make the right choices for your heating needs
