oil combustion test kit advice

I want to purchase a combustion test kit to ensure my oil burner is operating as efficiently as possible. I see two different style kits. One looks like a plactic suitcase filled with little things such as an awl, plastic charts, etc. It's around $400. I also see these hand held meters that have a ong metal rod on the end. Do these hand held meters work? I am only going to test my furnace once or twice a year, so I don't need a pro kit for 1,000 uses. Know where I can pick up one for a good price?

Save the money
and get a contractor to tune up your system at least once a year. Just make sure they do combustion testing.
The other thing to do is spend the money on some good quality CO detectors.0
