Temporary fix for leaking pipe

I have a wet return that is leaking (1 drip every 10-15 secs.)on my 1-pipe steam system. I know that I need to eventually fix the joint correctly but I am wondering if there is a temporary fix that will get me through the winter without having to take the system down. I heard that there is something like JB weld that works on wet surfaces. Any ideas?

    I've used.....

4 band clamps with a light coating of " Aviation Form a Gasket" , but only after draining the pipe/return to make sure it seals.
    I believe it's called a "nohub" clamp.

This IS temporary! It should be replaced in the spring when things let up. Chris

    Wet applications

have to be done with ProPoxy. It's more like a putty than a paste. JB Weld likes to see a clean dry surface, which in a steam boiler is really not that hard to acheive.

I've used both and been succesful long enough to give PLENTY of time and breathing room.

    I didn't a couple of weeks ago...

I do now. This is a fairly new house for me and needs some attention in the spring (hartford loop, good cleaning, equalizer etc.) just trying to get through the next 3-4 months without taking the whole system down. In the spring I will fix all of the problems and should have a decent system then. I went to the hardware store and got some ProPoxy 20 as it is good to 300 deg. and sets in 20 minutes. The clamp-type repairs ideas won't works as this leak is in threaded joint. I'll let you know how it works on Monday.

skinner also makes a thread repair clamp for a temp. fix providing the thread is not completely rotted out.

    the outcome..

I went the ProPoxy 20 route - it worked fine. The reason that I can't replace the return right now is that I am in SE Michigan and the temp tonight is going to be in the single digits. Can't take a chance with having to take the system down for any extended length of time. I also don't want to start wrenching on pipes due to possible collateral damage to the returns. I know that this is not a permanent repair but it will get me through to warm weather when there is other work that needs to be done (install Hartford loop and an equalizer) that will necessitate removal of the offending joint. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help.
