Burnham America question

Options
Hi everyone...quick question for you. I have a Burnham America 112,000 btu boiler at my new home. My inspector did a poor job and failed to find a crack in a pipe on the left side of the boiler above the water line. The unit is about 25 years old. PSE&G says I need a whole new boiler. Does anyone know if I would just be able to replace and or fix the pipe? She's putting out heat, but I have to add water every day and half. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it! thanks and happy holidays!

  • Where is the leak?

Are you referring to the piping connected to the boiler as leaking? From your description I presume that you have a steam boiler and not a hot water boiler. Is this crack on the return piping or supply piping? Lots of questions but only one definitive answer. Hope this helps.

It is a steam system, and I assume its the supply pipe, because when its filled over the water line it leaks internally between one of the burners. Any reccomendations?

    thanks again!

  • If you see water

coming down between the sections while not rising above the top of the boiler where the piping is connected, then you probably have a hole in the actual boiler itself. In other words, if you still see a water level in the gauge glass, but the boiler is leaking between the sections, there is more than likely a hole in the section. This model boiler is in excess of 30 years old and is no longer produced or under warranty. It has lived a long and very useful life and should be replaced. Hope this helps.

    Alex, Glenn is right

this older Burnham-America is at the end of its useful life.
