boiler control. Is this a direct copy of an existing Tekmar boiler control and if so which one. The customer wants to have set back in the heating zones. What are ways to do this with this control. WW

Here's a picture
of my panel for the control. I've been working on it in the morning while rush hour traffic is bad. When things die down I head out and run service. WW

Wayco?
Just curious! What you built there is comparable Wirsbo's Propanel 311P ( or vise versa) , but yours doesn't have the propanels differential bypass valves and enclosure. Once you have the panel built and wired and ready to install at the job how does the cost(hours and materials) compare to the factory offering.I'm seeking a second opinion as I have a bad habit of forgetting to cost all the little stuff that goes into building something (screws, clamps, pieces of strutt,Etc.).You know all the stuff we buy by the box and is laying around in the truck or shop.I thinking that the cost difference may not be very large. As for setback, check out Wirsbo's 511s and 512 setpoint controlers I think they may do the job for you.0 -
Tekmar 364
The Wirsbo 311 control is pretty close to, if not identical to the tekmar 364. It will give you dhw, boiler demand and a mixed temperature using variable speed injection or a 24 volt floating action valve. I have used both but prefer the Wirsbo product mostly because the manuals and instructions are better.
Set back in the zones is most easily done with the zone control(thermostat) particularly if there are more than one zone.
I would also appreciate it if you would post your thoughts on a rolled up cost. I have wanted to use one of the Wirsbo panels but have a case of sticker shock.

Wayne,
I would have to agree w/ George on this one! Your panals are always outstanding but the Wirsbo 311 panal seems to add so much more to the job & your pocket. It's much smaller (therefore less btu loss), it has bypass valves, it's wired, and it takes much less time.
I can understand why alot of guys are not using them because it somewhat simplifies what we do, but they are there now and the guys who don't understand this stuff will be using them. KISS! I know we have not used them on certain jobs but why haven't you?

You guys nailed it
I got the cost of the propanels and decided to make one for myself, and see what the cost difference would be. I'm wiring it now so we'll see how long it takes altogether. My hedge is that I'm doing something to make money, in the time I'm usually fighting traffic. I don't have the box or the diff bypass but I don't think I need them as it's going in a closet, I have single zones. It's also kinda fun to do. Jamie, I saw your pics of the propanel you did last month and it looks great. If I was real busy I would consider it so I could take on more work, but right now I'd rather pay myself than pay Wirsbo.

When you build your own
You get to pick your pumps
Check out this Watts purge valve. It saves you 3 solder joints and gives you a nice ball valve for both isolation and purge point.
Between the labor and extra boiler drain and tee, the cost works out.
Looks a bit more streamline, I think.
Nice work on the panel!
