Pricing and customer service Revisited

Yah, especially when you look at their work. I would never even think of running wire the way they do. Almost as bad as the cable guys...need a hole..drill it...don't matter where or what on the other side of the wall....staple? what's a staple for?

    Pricing and customer service Revisited

Hey Guys, had to call the phone company for a elderly neighbor this morning. Seems her line is busy all the time and she can't call out. Here in the "poverty zone" of northeastern Pa. Verizon is quoting in house wiring service at $91.00 first 1/2 hour and $46.00 each additional 1/4 hour. Yes they will check the wire to the box for free but anything else is at quoted labor rates plus materials. Does any body else think that may Its Time for the contractors out there in the world. to wake up to what the cost of doing buissness really is??

    I love it

When the cable guy just cranks up the hammer drill and bores right thru the living room wall like no problem dude.

    phone co?

try an electrician if it isn't a simple phone wiring issue. They won't be cheap either, but should be competitive w/ Verizon and should be better about fishing wires if needed. If she has a few other little things that need tweaking she might get them done too while he's already there for very little more money.

Though it may not help her, if you are good at low voltage wiring, phone usually isn't too hard to troubleshoot.

Disconnect or unplug (if there's an interface box/jack w/ a little loop and phone plug) the phone wires where they come in the house, and plug in a phone you know works and see if you can call out/in,
    or:
open the customer side of NIC box on the outside & unplug the phone jack feeding the house, and plug in th eknown working phone, as above.

If it works, but the phones inside do not you (not the phone co) have a problem. Try unplugging all phones, maybe its a phone. Try reconnecting only one set of wires at a time where the service comes in, maybe its one branch only. If its daisy chained try checking each plug, etc.

If you need to run new phone wire buy standard 4 pair CAT 5 network cable, not the obsolete 4 wire, untwisted red/green/yellow/black.

    Hey Al thats not fair!

Not every phone guy does work like that, just like not every heating guy does sloppy work either. Theres is pride in what you do no matter what it may be! Some have it, some dont!

    most electricians will not

bother to come out to do just that. If they would, they would charge the same , if not more then the phone company. And youre not even sure if the problem is in or out.. what if the electrician comes out and it turns out to be an outide problem? He's going to want be paid and shes out the money..

Oh BTW the 4 wire red/green/yel/black is still being used today! Not obsolete yet!
