Is there any way to archive this whole thread? I'd like to save it for Linda and give it to her someday.
Thanks to everyone's prayer and support, we made it through the funeral today.

Prayers needed (SE)
My best friend was killed in a hunting accident today. Our kids grew up together, our wives are best friends, we have shared all the joys and sorrows of life together for the last 25 years. And suddenly, he's gone. I don't have any words..... I just covet your prayers right now for me, my family and his wife, kids (4) and grandkids, left behind. I'm going over to their house now and I need some strength that can't find within myself.
Thanks0 -
Steve

I could write a book full of stories
His name was Dave and if I could write a book it would probably read a lot like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.
If it walked, ran or flew, we hunted it. If it swam, we fished for it. If it had a motor in it, we took it apart to see if we could make it go faster. His four and my four were all born within a ten year span so we had a lot in common through them. Our wives would get together and bake stuff about once a week when the kids were little. Both of us lost our fathers when we were 20 something. We just had a tremendous amount in common as far as families and goals and beliefs. I will miss him, he was my soul mate.
Here's a story, one of about a thousand I could tell.
We were fishing for salmon in the Manistee river. Dave's brother Marv (who swam like a 50 pound rock) Dave, myself and my brother Mark (who could break any fishing tackle known to man) were all in a little 14ft rowboat tied up out in the river. That alone, was a recipe for mayhem all by itself. We had our lunch bags, tackle boxes, thermos bottles, extra poles for Mark, boat cushions, oars and nets all crammed in there with us. We also had 7 or 8 salmon that we had already caught, adding about 100 pounds of additional ballast. Like we needed that! The little boat only had about 3" of freeboard left by the time we all got in it to begin with. Dave hooked a whopper about 6 feet from the boat and the idiot fish dove directly under the boat and jumped out of the water on the other side. It was a dandy fish, 20# plus, and when it hit the end of Dave's line in mid air the inertia of it's jump flipped it neatly into the middle of the boat. Instant chaos ensued. The fish landed squarely in an open tackle box, impaling itself with enough hooks to turn itself into a torpedo shaped porcupine. Now, picture four, large, white, American males manuvering in a very confined space, trying to keep themselves from becoming "attached" to the writhing mass of tackle that the fish had become. Two of us were trying to occupy the real estate at each end of the little boat. It must have looked like some kind of an aboriginal mating dance. We were all shouting at each other to "priest him". The "priest" was our name for a hunk of 1" steel pipe used to administer the "last rites" to a fish. Dave finally found the "priest" amidst the tumult and proceeded to flail mightily at the still very fresh salmon. Junk and lunch and rods and hooks were flying everywhere. People fishing from shore were laughing hysterically at the bedlam going on in our little boat. Stuff was flying out into the water with every lash of the fishes tail and every swing of the "priest". A connection between the end of the "priest" and the fishes head was made at last and all grew calm once more. It was like being put in a blender full of fish hooks. By a miracle or the protection of our ever present gaurdian angels none of us were "hooked" ourselves and we laughed about it for months after that.
Thanks for asking Paul, it felt good to tell that story.0 -

Your surgery turn out Mark?0 -
