Steam Main Vents From Home Depot

I got a bunch of these steam main vents from Home Depot. The packaging indicates they're model A883 from Durst in Mountainside, NJ, but it turns out Durst is only a distributor. The vents are made in Asia. Someone at Durst, after scratching his head for a while, told me they're equal to a Hoffman 45. Duh, a Hoffman 45 is a convector vent. I don't think thats what they are.

Does anyone know what the capacity of these vents are or how they compare to a Hoffman 4A or a Groton #1?

While were on the subject, does anyone know how the venting capacity of the Hoffman 4A and the Groton #1 compare? Are they equals?

Thanks for any info.

    Those vents

have a capacity roughly the same as the Hoffman #4A, which vents about 0.4 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air at 2 ounces.

The Gorton #1 or Hoffman #75 will vent about 1.4 CFM at 2 ounces.

And the monster Gorton #2 will vent about 5.5 CFM at 2 ounces.

That said, I wouldn't bother. Those cheapo vents don't last very long. Spend the money and get the good ones.

    Durst...or whistle while you work

I just took back a bag of those Durst vents. They not only vent slowly (I don't believe they are intended as main vents), but are noisy, with whistling regardless of the setting. several also failed to close reliably, they would noisily shudder open and closed instead of closing positively.

A waste of money IMO. I got no response from Durst whatsoever.
