Setting A Pressuretrol to Cut In at 1/2 Pound

Setting a Pressuretrol with a range of 0-10 or 0-15 psi to cut in at .5 pounds requires barely moving the indicator off the lower end of the slide dial, maybe about 1/8" up. I figure if the dial is not calibrated just right, one might be setting the actual cut in pressure lower than expected, so I have a tendency to set it about 3/4psi, just to make sure I'm not setting it too low.
Any thoughts on this? For one pipe steam, what would happen if one set as close to .5psi as one could estimate but the actual cut-in occured lower? How low is too low? What are the ramifications? Is there a good trial and error method for setting the cut in to optimal position?

I usually set it at 1 and 1.5 if it's the mercury type. .5 and 1 if it's the other type. Both ways it operates between 1/2 and 1.50 -
on larger one pipe systems it is ok to go as low as possible to give the condensate more opportunity to return. think large schools etc. if you are concerned about accurate settings, why not just use a vaporstat thats intended for your application anyway.0
