VC8715 zone valves

I had a call today and came across some Honeywell VC8715 zone valves. It's the first time I've come across these plastic valves. One of my suppliers said they sent the zone valves back because they said they were junk and had a lot of problems with them. Has anyone had experience with these valves? I think you may need a special tool to remove the guts, I know you can twist the actuator off and I beleive that's the problem.

It's a radiant job with a poor attempt at primary/secondary. using a 3 way and 5 of these zone valves with a 011 pumping off the 3 way and no differental bypass. If these valves are indeed junk, I'm gonna try to sell the customer on zone pumping and ditch the zv's and big honkin' pump.

Thanks for answers, Steve

They are trash. We unfortunately installed them on about 6 jobs before they started having problems. Save yourself a headache and take them out now.

You don't need to tear it all out though, I'd reduce the size of the pump, an 0011 is pretty big for 5 zones, unless they are REALLY long.

I'd really like to know what problems you have been having with the VC zone vlvs????

Has me a little nervous hearing they are trash. We have used hundreds of them (VC8711) over the last 4 or so years and have had very little for problems.
I hope they don't become one.

I like the powered open and closed features and NO or NC end switch options.

Out of hundreds installed I would say we have had less than 10 problem valves.

By the way the special tool comes with each valve bought.

    thanks, Steve

    Steve,
Same here. We've installed them in glycol systems as well as domestic hot water with only one problem valve in about 4 years of constant use. Be interesting to find what the cause of the troubles is.
