Here is some pics of a customers rental property the we just started servicing. The boiler hasn't been serviced and there are no records on if it ever was. The tentant moved out and left no oil. We put in 100 gals and primed it. The new tentant wants everthing to be right with it. The boiler runs but the pressutrol shuts it off, rads spit and hiss, and starts hards and trips out on reset. I expalin to my customer that the boiler needs a complete tune-up and then we need to deal with the other issues. I also noted to her that the boiler should be repiped. Naturally, the response is I never had any problems before.
The pictures do not do justise it actually looks worse. The hartfor-loop appears to be about 2" above the water line. Also, what is the deal with copper headers. I don't install them but I have alot of customers with them.
Whats your opinions???

Thanks Mad Dog,
Just double checking. I should always go with my first opinion, but its an easier sell knowing other people agree.0 -
Sure Pat, how's this.....
not too crazy, but a good job. Mad Dog

That's either a Utica Starfire or Columbia CSFH
You definitely need to repipe that one, Pat. The copper is bad enough, but those boilers require two risers to the header, not just one. A standard header like Mad Dog's would be fine, but a drop header would be perfect- here's a shot of one on a Columbia gas steamer with two risers.

copper
looks pretty lame, but what am I missing here, everything seems to be in place with the neer boiler piping, from what is visible anyways- I didn't notice the return though.
Overfired? Pressure too high?
This lady seems to have a lot of expectations-
