Correct Fittings for Hot Water Boiler
Mark Mathys
Member Posts: 30
I know these are very basic questions, but my plumbing experience is with high pressure hydraulics and not with hot water. I am replacing some fittings in my hot-water heating system and am wondering what is the correct type? Should I be using black pipe or galvanized? I have found some listed as Class 150 Malleable, are these OK? Also I will have to replace some 1-1/4" copper pipe. Should I use type L or K?
Thanks

Pipe questions
maleable Black iron sch. 40 is used for closed system piping in a hydronic application. Also, Type M copper is allowed for boiler piping in residential applications, Type L is allowed for all commercial applications, and Type K is allowed for all industrial applications. Usually M is all you need, unless you are looking for longer life from your system.0
