Header question

Just a question as far as header size goes. What if the manufacturer calls for a 3" header and you put in a 4" header. I would guess that a larger header is not bad. I am bidding a job that has an existing four inch header with 2 3" risers from an old boiler. I may be able to connect my 2 2" risers to this old header. Any comments would be appreciated.

Your header size is going to depend on flow rate of total system 2" pipe with can pass 50 gpm which turns to be approx 500,000 btus at a 20 F temp drop

And if it's steam
no problem. Bigger is slower and better.
