I have a boiler that has been down for a couple of weeks & the other boiler filled this one with water. The boiler is cold & the main supply trunk going to the main header is also full of water . I tried to drain it down slowly , but I still keep getting water hammer . The header valve on the boiler holds ,but the valve before the main header is weeping by . I would like your opinion on the best way to get the boiler back on line.

Boiler down
It sounds like you have two steam boilers connected together. While it can be done,it is not a great way to run a steam system.
If the first boiler won't start you would need to call a service company to come fix it.

Shut down the active boiler
and when the steam is down, you should be able to drain the second boiler. Also keep the pressure as low as you can to minimize the weeping. Get the other boiler and the leaky valve fixed as soon as you can. Try the Find a Professional page of this site to locate someone near you.
