zone valves

I just got back from the apt. The valves are model: ESP0750C2-1202. They do have the NC/NO switch, and a green LED. The stats are King, They are a simple dial and nothing fancy. When you turn up the heat the LED flashes and the gears start turning, the gears make noise constantly when they run, which seems like the whole call for heat. They sometimes won't open, then suddenly do and stick open. I thought of just replacing them with newer models and returning them for warranty. Thanks for the info guys, and Dan for this great forum. Taco ESP

My girlfriends apt is a new construction in NYC. The apt is two zone baseboard with ESP valves mounted in the baseboard enclosure. The problem is that the valves seem to have a mind of their own, sometimes overheating, sometimes no heat. I'm aware that there have been some problems with these valves which is why we haven't used them. I know that there is a manual switch from no/nc on the actuator maybe we can manually control these untill they are replaced. There are several apts having a problem so they will be looked at, but in the mean time I need a temp. solution. Is there a date code or s/n on the actuator to know if these are the first series? This building was constructed in the past year so they could be an older stock. The irony is that I'm out working on other peoples heat and am not able to do much for her. Thanks in advance for any help, ps. I'm going to make my way in there this afternoon. (via train or snowmobile)

  • There are new valves out

to replace any of the old ones that are a problem. If the valves you have do not have a -2 at the end of the number they are the old ones. All the new ones have the NC/NO switch removed and are compatible with all thermostats.

Do not replace any old ones unless they are a problem.
    This is not a recall.

There is a manual switch on top of those older ones so you can put them on manual until you get the new ones.

I understand there is some delay on the news ones being available at all supply houses.

The new ones are supposed to have solved all the previous problems.

    ESP compatability

I also remember reading that these were not compatable with all t-stats. Is there a list of stats from taco? I don't remember the brand she has, but they look like something I've seen on electric baseboard systems.

    There is something

out there, I have seen the list. It is available for the asking. If you use an isolation relay, this may solve the problems

    ESP Valves

Our suppliers apologized to us for ever putting those things on the shelf. They were nothing but an attempt to copy Honeywell's new product. They offered to buy back any we had purchased, or exchange for something else. I don't know if you would have the same luck, but save yourself some headaches and replace them now, so you can sleep better at night.

    Taco ESP Zone Valve

The New and Improved Taco ESP Zone Valve is now available! The most intelligent zone valve in the world just got smarter, faster, and easier to work with. Throw away your thermostat compatibility guide. Toss out all those by-pass resistors. Say goodbye to the wiring headaches.

The next generation ESP is hitting the streets, the buzz has started and the contractors are excited.

Attached is the revised Taco ESP Zone Valve literature. The ESP continues to be the smartest valve in the world. The features that it offers compared to the competition makes it the zone valve of choice for contractors.

You will notice a few improvements we made to the ESP:

„h Fully compatible with all thermostats. No matter the style of thermostat the ESP works with no special wiring or extra controls needed.

„h No more by-pass resistor. Long delays as the capacitor charges are in the past. The valve can now be used in more applications, such as indirect water heaters.

„h New dual capacitor system improves response time and torque rate.

„h We eliminated the Normally Open / Normally Closed slide switch because of confusion in the field and having it accidentally switched to the wrong position.

Note: The ¡§quick order part number¡¨ valves (i.e. ESP075C2-2) will come standard as Normally Closed. Normally Open valves are available by using the full model number ordering system (i.e. V075C2A2E024Q4A2, E = Normally Open)

„h All of the other features of the ESP remain unchanged.

All current production valves and actuators are a ¡V2 revision level. That means the part number would be V075C2A-2.

Once again, it is important to note that there is no need to replace properly working valves with this latest version. We will continue to work with every contractor on any outstanding field issues effecting the older ESP¡¦s. By utilizing the latest actuator to fix problem jobs it has given us immediate and very positive feedback. Check with your local Taco rep or stocking wholesaler for additional information on the ESP Zone Valve and try one today.

    Sincerely,
    Mark Chaffee
