Pilot light

When I hold down the pilot button, the pilot will light. When I release the button to turn to on, the pilot goes out. I held the button down for a few min. and still the same thing. Thanks in advance.

Generally, this indicates a bad capillary tube, which gives a signal to the gas valve that it's OK to open. Please hire a pro to do this for you. Gas can be an angry animal if not handled correctly.

sounds to me like a dirty pilot.you should have someone come out to check it out for you.The thermocouple needs a good strong pilot to keep the valve open.If the flame isn't hitting the thermocouple it will not stay lit.0 -
4 things
Most likely you have a bad thermocouple, next likely the thermocouple is ok but the pilot flame not big enough, third they are both ok but the thermocouple nut isn't tightened adequately into the gas valve. 4th you need a new gas valve. If a service person comes out they will look at the pilot flame, clean to increase if necessary and then put in a new thermocouple and if that doesn't work a new valve.0
