Steam Radiator Paint?
Braman
Member Posts: 1
I am in the process of sandblasting and painting my steam radiators, and I am looking for advice on paint. I used rustoleum industial enamal (rattle can) on the first one, and while the paint is supposed to be good to 220F, the paint got soft and smelled terrible when the radiator was turned on for the first time. It does seem to be curing gradually, but I was wondering if anyone has had better luck with another brand. I would use a high-heat paint, but the color selection is severely limited.
Thanks for any help!

Paint
I have always had good luck with Rustoleum high heat paint. They used to make a silver color that looks pretty good. Not sure if it is still available. I've read from other threads that some folks use auto engine paint which will definitely hold up to the heat and comes in many more attractive colors. I have found the newly painted rad will smell for a few days, but then that clears and everything is fine.0 -
Silver...
is a bad choice unless your radiator is grossly over sized.

As Dan says, it pays to wander off the Wall.
