Does anyone know any good books on the basics, maintenance and troubleshooting for oil burners? Mainly residential.

Check with your local Delevan dealer. They used to have some good handouts.

    Oil Heat Manual

Best basic oil heat manual, can be had @ http://www.noraed.org/NORA_09-03_order_form1.pdf . Low price and has most of what you need.

    Oil heat basics and more....

I highly recommend George Lanthiers books , along with Noel. Mr. Milne got the whole (to date) enchillada this fall, and I've got both a wealth of information to use as a guide, and a whole lotta reading to do!

If you need the real basic stuff, check out the New England Fuel Institute. I don't know how much their training manuals and classroom text has changed since I went, (let's just say a LONG time ago OK?) but the first book I read on oil burners and combustion was written by the founder of the NEFI, Charles Burkhardt (sp.)

It was , then ,THE definitive book. Times have changed, but that book has all the information that is pertinent to burning oil, written in an easy to read and understand format. I can't recommend it enough.Matter of fact, my copy is now gone, along with a rookie I trained (again...A long time ago.). It has lots of stuff on old burners, but blasts you with the facts. Equipment has changed, but the basics remain the same.

Welcome aboard the Wall, and also the "oil express". Don't be afraid to ask questions here, or at Oil Tech Talk. The dumbest question is the one that goes unasked ! Chris

    Beckett

Beckett has very good basic material, including a video series. If you can take their one day class, costs less than 100 bucks and you get alot of great basic material
