    This type of solution

is primarily used in ground source heat pump applications where the fluid temperature can be very low, actually below 32 F. Both ethanol and methanol are used, primarily to reduce the pumping enrgy required. It's basically windshield washer antifreeze. For usage info, search some sites on this type of application.

    alcohol

Used in groundsource because easier to pump then glycols and less expensive. Highly flammable with invisible flame. When working with the stuff, even I, the nut that smokes when changing a fuel filter on my truck leave the matches, lighter, and cigs in the truck till all done mixing and injecting the stuff.(Done did trim the ol'beard hard a couple of times lighting the grill with the stuff. don't do what I did) Methanol used for racing fuel easy to get But toxic. Pure Ethanol none toxic (Corn licker frm them thar hills)until denatured.Usually purchased from chemical supply house. All alcohol commercially available is denatured, 99.7% of the time using gasoline,. Cannot be made nontoxic. Pharmaceutical grade ethanol you don't want to pay the price. Use propylene glycol if you need antifreeze in a hydronic system. None toxic, easier to work with, more stable and won't stink up the house in case of a leak.
