anybody done it lately. Did a peppermint test today, but cannot pinpoint leak. It is a large commercial bldg with pured concrete walls, so exploratory holes are difficult. I'd like to rent one. Mad Dog

" I was just glad the fire department had a sense of humor."
Been there, done that.
" But, weren't you disabling the smoke alarms?"
"Can you turn it off, please?"
"I can't hear what you're saying, the fire alarm is going off here", etc., etc..0 -
Smoke
Why not hook it to the Weil Mclain burner and use its exhaust to produce the smoke0 -
Smoke Test....
Done a bunch. Need a fire resistant/proof box with a couple ports. one for de bomb and one for de hose. Hook it to a wet vac and the other side to the arm on a basin (or any other easily adapt). You usually need help (someone on the roof) capping off the pipe when your good and smoky. Just be carefull not to cap it off before you shut off the vac (smoke WILL fill the buiding via the trap seals). Whats the reason for this extra test? The only time I belive is resonable is when it's a prefab. Sometimes the plastic cracks during shipping.......BOC0 -
We are trying to find the source of a sewage smell
when certain toilet is flushed. In is an old poured concrete building with finished rooms. Short of ripping the whole place apart, we are trying the least invasive ways first. Pipes are buried behing concrete walls. Peppermint test confirmed leak in pipe but was too inconclusive to put an X on the spot. Mad Dog

That's a tough one
I'm sure you've checked the wax rings.
Can you do a flood test? Remove the fixture connections, plug the main and fill the system with water just like you do for an inspection.

this may sound Facisile....take a 5 gallon bucket of hot water and hand it to the apprentise to take up on the roof and dump down the TRV.hang out by the toilet with a new wak ring ,break out the crescent wrench and a pair of grips. replace the wax ring! voila! done deal!0 -
Hey Matt
We've had great luck sending a camara down the drain. We contact a drain cleaning company that we use and they do it. Pretty amazing we found three sheetrock screws right in the PVC drain for the master bath. Started clogging up as soon as the handy man hung up the cabinet in the laundry room.
More than likely than can see the crack. They can also send a locater down with it and pinpoint it with in a few feet.

This would be my suggestion.
It is unreal what we find when the camera is down the pipe.

SMOKE MACHINE
Radio Shack used to sell one of these things for around $100. Puts out around 3300 cuft. fog a minute. Don't know if it will work for ya but you can keep it for your next Halloween party. www.radioshack.com0
