In living color. Did I tell you that I love my Munchkin???
I LOVE my Munchkin. Saved another 30% last month and it was colder this year than last...
This is the system picking up her DHW shower load. Just fired up. Within 30 seconds it is in positive production territory. ZOOOOOooommmm...
(Don't tell her I'm showing youse guys pictures, OKay...:-)

Just wish I wouldn't get hollered at by my wife so much....
when I make all those trips to the basement to see what my Ultra's doin' or sittin' up at night flippin through websites checkin' out the latest technology, instead of checkin her out.....
Hey, I'm just figgerin out the best way to keep ya warm honey...and with the money I'm savin' and makin..........
UHHHHH, yeah I know.... the new kitchen......
shall I do it myself....???? or hire a pro???????
You want it done when????? :-)0 -
Hey, Mark
I was wondering if in that wonderful home lab of yours you can measure electrical usage for the system. One of my ongoing concerns is the increased electrical usage for many condensing heat sources. It is another cost of operation that must be added. For may years hydronics had a huge efficiency advantage over forced air because of the very small amounts of electricity needed to run the system. Every KWH of electricity consumes about 2 to 3 times that of natural gas, oil, etc. because the overall efficiency of the generation, electrical grid and enduse equipment is 40% at best, and more like 25%.

a couple dumb questions
Mark,
First, is this data from the munchkin or is this external data. Second, what's the emaning of the ionization?
thanks,
jerry

I wounder how many go to your post to see your wife showering
Then think that nut waching his wife showering on screen. Nice work Mark. I am glad you love your Munchkin. I love Munchkin too!
A note on power useage when running the Munchie. The unit draws .87 amps upon start up. It draws .37 amps after rectification in run mode.0 -
Jerry...
All parameters are directly from the Munchkin. Flame ionization is the flame strength as sensed by the ignition controller.
I hooked my home PC up to my Munchkin using the service software/cable system that is normally used in the field to monitor and diagnose in the field.
THere are many other screens that I can look at too. I will show you some of them tonight.

KHW
Boilerpro,
Do you want to include the KWH to run all the pumps etc. in the "electrical usage for the system"? It takes a high head/power pump to get the required flow through a Munchkin & others. & if you run the pumps 24/7 you betcha it adds up!

I don't know
Looks more like you doing the dishes from here Mark. Nice Job. J.Lockard0 -
Exactly, The Munchkin may only draw 0.37A, but the pump 2.5A.
depinding on the size. If you factor in the pump energy usage, what is your overall gain versus a 82% efficient chimney vented boiler with a .8 A pump. I'me not putting down the Munchkin, but this is something noone seems to be talking about. The overall energy input (including the inefficiences of electrical systems, not just gas) and the overall useful energy output. This gives you a much more accurate representation of efficiency. IMHO

Here a picture of me doing dishes (dish washer)...
Thanks for asking! It's how I keep my hands nice and smooth, right Madge!

My system is unique...
The way I've piped it, and remember also this is a T 50, my pump amp draw is only .8 amps for space heat, and .75 amps for DHW. Overall, it's my gut feeling that even with the higher amp draws that this system overall will reduce my cash outlay for keeping my house comfy. As for continuous circ, the boiler pump wouldn't be running all the time. Only when heat is required. With the use of a buffer tank, cycle times would be less in total and longer in duration.
Here's another view. This is called the Status Screen.

Trust me...
The Europeans are watching it. They have a net energy mind set. If an 82%er with a .8 pump used less energy and produced less pollution, IT would be the norm, not the systems we're seeing today. I'm pretty sure that it is a net reduction of energy consumpotion.
But bear in mind, the Europeans are not prone to using a pump per zone either, they use non electric zone valves.
So I guess it is entirely possible that an Amereicanized system could use more power than an 80%er with one small pump.
In the words of the Famous Mr. Holohan, "It Depends..."

Yep that says it all.....NM

And
Is your pump draw actually 0.8, or is that the rating plate? Amperage draw varies with flow. It also makes alot of sense that, as I understand, the Euros design on higher system water delta tees. It really reduces pump sizing. Our US obsession with wasteful energy usage really seems to be reflected in things like 20F standard system delta tees and 10F for most radiant. I generally just scratch my head, and do it my own way.
This issue is also why I really like the Hydrotherm Pulse boiler concept, virtually no electrical usage once it is running, higher mass to eliminate short cycling, and very low pump heads. Too bad the Meztek does not do a better job designing and backing thier products.
And yes Emissions are an issue which the US once again ignores.

Softens your hands while you do the dishes
Cool stuff! Now, do the dishes air dry or do you dry them with a towel? Yet again you amaze me with the info you post. If I didn't own my own biz I'd probably be knockin on your door looking for a job. p.s. Cut you finger nails....Robert O'Connor/NJ0
