bubble wrap

i have looked at a job with an exsisting staple up radiant system no plates. The heat being transfered down to the basement is really bad. It has r-19 can't fit anymore. Has anyone put bubble foil right across the bottom of the joists to give it a little more and trap the heat up in the bay? if so how well did it work?. I'm sure the H.o doesn't want to pull it all down so we can put the bubble foil above

do you have an air barrier in there?? sound's like you have it packed right in allowing the heat to transfer direct to the insulation..If nothing else and a need to create a barrier remains try the blueboard insulation...good luck

Joel, we had a guy staple RFoil up tight to the floor but it was with plates and didn’t want the air gap. I was worried it wouldn’t work to good with just the RFoil and no fiberglass insulation, but it worked out great!

I would definitely check to see if there is an air gap if it is just staple up with no plates. Are the rooms above heating o.k? If not I would look into installing plates.

If you are interested we are having our first RPA chapter meeting this Monday the 15th @ 6:00 pm at Whites restaurant off of 195.
