Anyone else using Don Sleeths' load calc. program?

I've been using it for over a year and are quite happy with the results.

I think its great for forced warm air and a/c. I use it for forced hot water and baseboard as well. No problems so far.

    hvac calc programs

I use Wrightsoft, a little pricey at first but after I learned how to use it I really like the features, and proffesional documentation I can print. Service and suport is a call away, I have made many calls and the techs know the product. My only complaint is they have to update template files to include some of the wacky rooflines I have to design for these days. But not a big problem, the tech support explained how to figure out another way. Just my opinion....
I also use Wirsbo ADS for radiant calcs....

    I still use

my old dos version of Maxi-calc by Horgan Assoc. I like it because its fast. I would go to writesoft if it wasnt so darn expensive, until that time I'll keep what I got, and draw out my layouts by hand.

    Me too

I've been using a couple years now. Sure is easy and sophisticated. Nice commercial version too though I've only used a couple of times. Really good support if you need it.

John Mills , do you mean the HVAC-calc by don Sleeth?

Have you had any sizing problems? Forced air or hydronic?

I have not so far and I mainly use the residential program.

    just duckie!

i have been useing a version for a few years and just downloaded the current upgrade.it is my bible...on disk.i find it to be extremely honest and very usefull in overall system design.would like to see some incorporation of proposal submittal software or equipment spec.software to make it a one stop shop.would also like to see the commercial version treed more like the residential for when you have to do multi office applications.but otherwise it is the real deal.RUSS.

    No problems

so far. Pretty much all forced air around here. Numbers come up with what we get doing the old Manual J by hand.

    HVAC-Calc

Add another "I like it too" vote for Don's program. HVAC-Calc is a great tool for Manual-J calculations, and his bulletin board also has a wealth of information. Furthermore, he continues to add nifty features. As they mature, they become really useful.

For example, he's started adding duct diameter calculations in the latest revision. they may not be Manual-D compliant, but they offer a great first step in the right direction. Perhaps Don's software will evolve to a fully Manual-D compliant solution as well. However, it would be a bit of a departure from Don't current, fast tab-based system to a more graphical one (like the Wrightsoft stuff).

As I'm a HO, not a contractor, I cannot justify spending the $$$ for the Wrightsoft solution. However, if I were a contractor this would probably be my solution of choice since it incorporates many related modules into one package that is flexible enough to do everythign from forced air to radiant heat. The time you would save using that suite would be made up on the second job...

Lastly, what I like best is the speed with which HVAC-Calc works... even in Windows XP running on a Mac (via VirtualPC) performance is acceptable. The reports you can print are very user-friendly and have helped me a lot specify a number of features in the house. Tech support is very responsive, and his pricing is more than fair. The many tiers he has allow room for everyone from a HO to a full scale contractor.

    sorry for the delay Ted...

Just go to the Wirsbo website, and buy a copy I forget how much it costs.... a hunred bucks I think. You may have to get registered with the website first, if any problems just talk to your wholesaler. It is money well spent, very user friendly program, I bought it when it first came out and love it.
