Surging boiler

My boiler(Well Mclain SGO4) water is dirty and I was thinking of cleaning out the system with MEX. What is the proper way to do this? Can I insert it in the pressure relief valve if I remove it?
How much do I use and how long should it run through the system? Do I repeat the proces more than once etc?
Thanks in advance.

It is time consuming - but
worth the time.
Drain whats in there. Returns too.
Refill with clean water and about a cup of MEX per 100,000 BTU's of input.
Fire that sucker up and as soon as you feel steam coming into the first horizontal pipe from the riser(s), turn it off and drain it again - completely. Returns too (don't forget the LWCO if non-probe type). Refill with fresh water and rinse again. Fill again and fire it up. If the priming and surging stops (75% chnace it will) leave it alone and enjoy.
If it does it again in the next day or two, do the whole thing again.
Aside: Make sure the pressuretrol is no higher that 2 p.s.i. cut-out - and the diferential set to 1 p.s.i.
Voila!
