Viessmann QC problem

Mark Hunt
Mark Hunt Member Posts: 4,908
I got two damaged Vitocell 300 indirects in a row.

I mean smashed. At first we though that the supplier had done something wrong, but after todays shipment, we know it was the factory.

Anyone else having this problem?

The homeowner saw the first damaged unit, but not the one we sent back today. "Thank You God!"

Wow, I cannot believe the lonely crickets chirping on this post. I have had my disputes with Mr. Hunt on other subjects, but this is not acceptable. These are water heaters that cost thousands of dollars (contractor cost). That these water heaters have so much as one "ding" in them is unacceptable. There have been posts of other manufacters products, ( and I'm thinking Munchkin ) that have been unmercifully punished for whatever (unfounded) reasons. But now the Viessman crowd is very , (how vill ve say) quiet. Interesting. Gehen Sie Aus!

    In all fairness

Edwin Nordstrom e-mailed me privately and is involved in finding a solution.

We did get an undamaged unit yesterday.

    I suspect...

that there were rough seas when that batch came across the pond. Ever seen one of them container ships at sea during 25 foot swells? It's amazing that ANYTHING comes out in one piece.

    More than likely

I would guess that the damage occured between Viessmann and the distributor. The dock guys at the distributor probably failed to check the incoming freight and just off loaded it. Maybe it was a busy day, who knows. The crux of the issue is how did it get handled.

Freight companies rank even higher than cement contractors in their ability to crush, mutilate, mangle and destroy equipment and merchandise. I remember an order of cast iron cookware that came in to our store on Yellow freight lines in particular. This was a large drop ship directly from the factory packed in wooden crates. There were several 12" fry pans that were actually broken in half, some with the handles broken off and even a dutch oven pot that was in chunks. I have always wondered just what exactly they did to destroy cast iron pots and pans. Go figure.

    Viessmann is on it

Hard to say when the damage occured. I was at the RI warehouse, and i find it HARD to believe that the product was damaged there.

New unit is in the basement and waiting for the final touches.

    Pics will be coming soon.

I will say this, the other day one of the insulators had his family come to the job to look at our mechanical room.

We are definately proud of this one. We do our best on every install, but we got to shine this one up a bit more.

    Viessmann support

Things get damaged. It's not a perfect world,2 in row! that's
    wierd.
The true test is how Viessmann worked with you to move your project along.(ie)customer service and tech support.
I have worked with Viessmann for a number of yrs.and had
some difficult jobs.I have installed all kinds of equipment
but what kept me coming back to their products was the quality and most of all the people and the support that I know is behind me every time we install a system.

You can have the best products in world, but if you can't get help in a timely fashion in our business your out in the cold.
I'm not saying there are'nt other good products out here. But I have yet to find the level of support that Ed and his team at Viessmann provide.
    You've heard from one.

started to fill fri late afternoon. It's ok on the outside but, on the inside it leaks from the dhw into hx. Supplier got the call. Monday, Viessmann. I expect nothing but the best from them and am sure I'll get it.

    Viessmann

I've also received some damaged Viessmann product (a Vitorond with smashed sheet metal, a Vitocell 300 with a cracked HX, and a broken housing on a mixing valve actuator). In all cases, Bob Marshall made sure new product was delivered to me in a timely manner and even reimbursed some of my labor costs for having to pull the Vitocell.

As far as I'm concerned, these guys have the best customer service of anyone. I wish I could say the same for some of the U.S. companies I deal with.
