Pressure Problem

I just went to look at this boiler. the homeowner claims that the fourth floor is not getting sufficient heat and that one specific radiator is air bound. He also states that to get the fourth floor hot he not only has to bleed the specific radiator, he also has to manully feed the boiler through the fast-fill to bring up the boiler pressure. This boiler feeds a old gravity system which now has circulators and flowchecks on every zone. the system has no source of air elimination or seperation, except for auto vents on each radiator. HELP! PLEASE!

you have to adjust

the pressure higher, it is usually under the fast fill. if it is old you may need a new boiler fill valve. bob

4 floors, approx. 40 feet...need 20 lbs just to get it there. You may need to go higher and use a higher set safety valve to keep the air out of the system. We have several with 45# reliefs and run the system at 30-32 lbs just to heat upper floors. Most auto vents will suck in air as well as eliminate it, so keep the pressure up and make sure you have enough expansion capacity.
