Hardwood attachment to concrete floor?

I have a potential customer who is wanting to install real hardwood floors over a concrete first floor. He is NOT planning gypcrete/lightweight but 4" of the heavy stuff. We both know there are structural issues to be addressed with that, and I advised him about acclimating the wood before installation, but what I need help with is how do you attach the wood? I have seen the 2X sleepers with the thin gyp crete pours, but what about this? Thanks guys in advance. Kevin O. Pulver

    HMMMmmmmm...

That could be a tough one. If he wants sleepers to nail on, I guess you could do 4 x 4 with a 1 x 4 on top of that. That would give you 4-1/8 inches of cement. The sleepers would have to be perfectly straight in every way prior to pour, and that would be tough to do.

How about this. Let them pour the tube in the 4 " pour, then put down a vapor barrier (after running the floor to drive out the moisture in the slab) then put down 3/4" T&G plywood (floating) and naill your HW floor to that.

Or, let them pour the floor without the tube in it, put down some vapor barrier, and put down WarmBoard and then the cured, fully dried hardwood floor on top of that.

The last plans strikes me as being the best route.

    Thanks Mark.

I'll let you know if anything develops.
It makes laminate flooring sound really good to me. Kevin
