O-E made some wonderful vapor/vacuum equipment. This piece is VERY rare.

Thanks to all who have been buying bricks. You're making this job a lot easier to get done. Much appreciated!

    openning pdf's

the bbb pdf. opened instantly, but I'm getting blank pages on the O-E pdf. Don't know if its my reader but adobe tells me I'm as good as it gets, since I'm still running that antique relic Win 98 II. If I want to get to reader 6.0, the message says I need XP.

    Same problem...

I only see a blank page with some of these old Library items, while others are viewable. Can you tell me what you did to view all? (I don't want to miss the Dead Sea Scrolls when they are posted!) Thanks

    Do you have

the Acrobat 6.0 reader? If not, upgrade to that. It's free.

    reader 6.01

    E Fire,

Unclick the "download photo shop" box. Adobe is trying to get you to buy photo shop with an introductory program when you try to download the reader. The photo program only works with ME NT 2000 XP not 98.Leaving it checked stops the reader 6.01 from down loading. I think it says you don't have enough memory.

    Alex Marx came by today

and helped me set up the Adobe software. He scanned this beauty for The Library.

In case you don't know, Alex is a computer consultant. He came to my seminars in Plainview last December and subsequently worked with us on the Suffolk Community College project, where we installed three heating systems in Eugene Silberstein's lab. Alex now wants to be in the heating business.

He's a great guy and he gave me the Adobe software as a gift. He's also the one who got me thinking about the concept of The Library, for which I am very grateful.

I hope you enjoy his 1900 scan.

    I had to upgrade also

but it was pretty painless. I am now running Adobe Reader 6.0 under Windows 98 SE, and the reader is listed as a "helper application" in Netscape 6.2 so it automatically opens PDF files.

I had trouble displaying Dan's PDFs when using Acrobat Reader 4.0, but the upgrade solved the problem.

    Dan, can we contribute

to this project? Do we need the Adobe software to do it, or can you convert from something like a JPEG image?

    That might be the problem

I'm running Second Edition and it worked fine for me.

If you don't want to shell out big bucks for XP and put up with Bill Gates' draconian copy-protection procedure, you can probably find 98SE or ME at a computer show or used-computer dealer.

    When this goes live

and that should be when I get back from Italy (the week of 3/15), I'll have it set so that it will work with Windows 98 as well. That makes the files larger and slower to load, but I don't want any Wallies to get frustrated. Alex is helping me out with this and he's got a good handle on it.

Gerry, sorry for the trouble. When it's real it will be easier. Thanks.

    Are all Dead Men...

actually dead? Can they still be alive, but very old and still kicking? My dad just turned 80 yesterday, and was in this business for over 40 years. I played some Jerry Garcia for him recently, and he seemed to like it - can I refer to him as a "Dead Man"?

    Adobe 6.0 reader

My 5.0 wouldn't upgrade thru its link to adobe. Kept telling me I need XP. I finally went to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html and did a download from that section and now its working
