Has anybody successfully used a flat plate x-changer to isolate an outdoor furnace from the house system? If so, were you able to get proper secondary heat transfer? Just curious if I can get a 40-50 degree rise on a 170000 btuh system. Thanks

make sure with an open system outdoor type of unit you need to keep the water quality good. Or risk sludging the A side HX. Most furnaces come with a quanity of starter inhibitor. Check and maintain it with a boost available from the manufacture.
While I have the Flat Plate brand design software, I always check with them for assurance. They always have a trick or two up their sleeve! 1-800-774 0474 or 717-767-9160
There is a HX available for virtually every application if you have all the figures jotted down, to calculate it.
