    Internet control device needed

    I got this email, and have no experience with this particular control logic. Where's Secret Squirrel when you need him... Original e-mail follows;

    We have some friends that want to be able to control their snowmelt system remotely via the internet at their vacation home. That case being when the system turns on during a brief snow but then runs for 6 hours even though the driveway is dry. They currently have cameras that view the driveway and can easily tell when this happens. Do you know of anyone that has designed a web interface?

    Thanks much,
    -Bill Romans

    Any help would be appreciated by him and me!

    TIA

    Do you have any idea what is controlling the system now? I have some friends that do internet based building automation, in fact I used to work for them, but anyways, and more specifics. What I've thought of is to, for example, take a temperature output from say a tekmar, and use it to trigger an email, then allow them to send a signal to shut down system.

    NOt sure...

    but whatever it is, they'd like to be able to shut the snowmelt system down. THey currently have a camera that they can see their driveway. THey find that many times a fast moving storm comes through and trips the snowmmlet which runs for a minimum for 5 to 6 hours, regardless of the amount off snow that hit. They want to be able to look at the driveway and make the decision as to how long the system should run for.

    Sounds like a simple snow switch to me.

    Our networked zoning system...

    has an optional telephone access module, that allows systems to be turned on or off, setpoints changed and alarms sent out via any touch tone phone, if they could use that. This system can't stand alone, but Networked Zoning works nicely with both scorched air or wet heat. Check it out at our website http://honeywell.com/yourhome
