how the Dead Men put their focus on the benefits a product had to offer, rather than its technical features.

And thanks to Alex Marx for hooking me up with Acrobat. Whole new world opening up here, pal. Thanks.

    Is this one for real?

Even for 1955, it seems over the top. Ozzie and Harriet anyone?....no, not Osborne.

Dan, I think I have that very catalog

shown in the ad! Mine dates from around 1945 or 1947 or so.

    Allright Guys

being from gas country I can't begin to fathom what an "oilmaticion" might be! What a great word. Can any of you say you are true oilmaticians?? My guess is more than a few.

    and even today

I'm pretty sure there are places in the world where this "laundry list" of wifely behavior would be thought of as proper, correct and even a bit liberal... but certainly not where I live!

    My Linda

    Good wife.

What a gem Dan. I took a copy home at lunch time today & stuck it up on the Kitchen cabinet door, my good lady & I had a great laugh.
She assures me she will try her best to comply !!
No only joking. My darling is like most young ladies today works full time, keeps our home & does all the other 101 things - she is wonderfull. The kids & I love her loads.
Thanks Dan & I hope there is no copy right problems with the above ?
    Kind regards.

    Personally,

I always ask my wife to wear her high heels whenever she's near the stove - just like the picture.

    Not.

    Bogus Article

    Dan,

While "The Good Wife's Guide" is humorous, I think it is a forgery. Try to find any reference to the magazine "Housekeeping Monthly" other than May 1955. I bet the magazine never existed.

The article starts out plausible enough, but by the time you get to "Don't complain if he's late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night" it's pretty clear that nobody would write that even in 1955.

The article is mentioned on Snopes:

    http://www.snopes.com/language/document/goodwife.htm

It's still good for a laugh, but there are people out there who use this article to show how terribly oppresive men were in the past. Maybe true, but it's annoying when an article of questionable origin is used as a proof text for something.

Having said all that, I'm still going to show my wife the article and we'll have a good laugh. :^)

Sweet Carol wants to know if you have shown that to the Lovely Marianne yet.

(After I showed it to SC, the doctor said I should heal nicely and the scars won't show...much.) Ya know, redheads ought to come with warning labels!

How do we know the oil burner ad isn't a fabrication too. "Oilmatician" is a dead give away.

    Moved to Peoria, Illinois...

I couldn't find them in the phone book anymore, but they were an old company that had gone through many changes. They were, last time I saw them, a contracting business doing residential and light commercial work. They had last built furnaces and other components in the 50's and 60's. The midwest isn't oil country anymore but until the 60's oil was a big player in the market. I can't confirm the ad but it certainly has reference to a company I recall existing into the 80's. Art

    seems no one has noticed...

...In the original post, the woman who is burdened by the consequences of coal heat is not so much the wife as the (black) maid who must scrub the walls. Nice of them to be so concerned about her.

    I'm an \"Oilmatician\" in training,

as I don't have the oil experience that many here and Oil Tech Talk have, I am getting more experienced on the few Northern Illinois Oil burners still around that I work on.

I'd be surprised if the Wifely Guide is bogus. It begs some research
