In response to economic pressures faced by all manufacturers, especially those using steel in their products, Taco, Inc. has announced a price increase effective March 1, 2004 for all its residential and commercial products.

Price increases for most Taco residentail products range from 2% to 6%. Commercial products price increases range from 2% to 5%.
Retired and loving it.

    Beware

Price of steel and copper is skyrocketing. Steel because of a shortage of coke and scrap.

    More wealth in China

Article in the WSJ about this a few weeks ago, seems steel scrap prices are high in the US because of a steel shortage in China because of all the new manufacturing business that came over from the US that just assumed the chinese founderies would supply product alot cheaper. Strangly it adversly affected Nucor the steel producer here that uses mostly scrap, and helped the stock of US steel because they use more Iron ore for feedstock. I guess it really is a global economy.

    We have

been advised by our suppliers that cast iron soil pipe and all steel products will increase as of March 1. Steel may be in short supply before the summer.

Haven't heard anything about copper yet, but it probably can not be far behind with the increases.

    a copper increase...

might be nice, since the cost increase to a PRO-PRESS fitting will be only be a fraction of the fitting cost, whereas on a reg fitting it could increase by 30 percent making propress effectively more competitive, granting it more widespread use, effectively making it still cheaper –

once more people are using it – the system can be improved – eg to remove a propress fitting today you have to cut the pipe – but with widespread use they could make a motorized tool that lengthwise slits the outer copper later only and with a circular jaw grips the adjacent pipe and with a fitting edged sized ring pusher, pushes the now slit fitting off the line, then an internally screw expander could straighten out the crimp in the line from the inside against a correct sized outside sleeve, and now you can reuse the rest of it, so you only lost the propress fitting – thus you no longer have to build in, blank pipe space, to cover repairs, mistakes and changes
