Adding a Steam valve?

I live on the fourth floor of a five-story apartment building. The owner of the the apartment above mine is doing a renovation and she wants to cut off the riser heating pipe in one room, meaning that the pipe would end in my apartment. Her contractor said they would just add a steam valve at the top in my apartment.

My questions are:
What will this mean for me?
Can it leak?
Will it be more heat than before?
Are there any risks in doing this, or are there any potential negative repercussions?

Also, vis a vis the coop building as a whole, are there any risks to the building's heating systems if she does this?

Please let me know, thanks.

    You might

ask her to cut the pipe in her apartment and leave the air vent there, down near the floor

  • Thanks for the quick reply! One more question:
Is this a common/standard/ok thing for someone to do/request?
Is there a risk that the water would leak?

    Please let me know.
    thanks!

    It's not likely

that it will leak, but it will vent air, which you might hear, depending on how many other vents there are in the system, and their condition.

What sort of heat is she putting in?

  • she's not adding any new heating, just removing the pipe because she doesn't feel she needs the heat from that one. there are several other radiators and another couple of risers in the apartment.

    Tell her

to keep the vent in her apartment.
