A sad day here NYC. The front page of the NYP says it all
"DEATH GAS"....."Fumes kills couple in midtown horror"
The fire chief reported that the reading on upper floors were 30 times higher than the saftey limit. The reading was 300 PPM, the saftey limit is 9 or 10 PPM. What a shame a simple $10.00 or $15.00 CO detector would have saved there lives.

Not that simple
Saying that a "simple" $10 or $15 CO detector would save lives is putting it too simply -- and is incorrect. Good CO detectors, hard wired to a home's electrical system, are much more than $15 and are the recommended way to go. I think you are referring to a smoke detector.0 -
CO-School again
Teacher-student poisoned, no CO found?

Plus...
Plus, using a Nighthawk (or any UL2034 approved alarm) will not alert them of levels below 30 ppm....0 -
CO
You are right, I was thinking about smoke detectors.0 -
PS
School is staying closed this week because everyone is still baffled. One of our NCI students is calling the school to see if he can offer assistance. Will follow-up.0 -
They need the low level co momitors. Right jim?0 -
Certainly they need low levels monitors, but first they need someone competent to find the problem. Even low level monitors in the hands of stupid people accomplish nothing.0 -

stupid people
"I think the school board and corporation is taking the appropriate actions to make sure they're testing, and not jumping to too many conclusions and do too much before it's warranted," Polston said.
What is doing too much when people are being poisoned by Co ?0 -
normal is 35PPM CO
Yikes.
I read the article, and just about dropped when I read that. Someone needs to explain to them that 0PPM is normal.

Things went to pot when I left town. There is a health center near hear that was closed down just a few days after opening a few years ago because the ventilation system which operated in the main building was pulling air from the boiler room because the outside air dampers were not adjusted properly. Fumes were pulled from the room without the ventilation system even running.0
