Steam Coil
Boiler Guy
Member Posts: 585
Dan, MadDog, Steamhead I recently replaced a 2 pipe steam coil that has now started continually knocking. The original coil had 14 return bends on 5/8 tubing the new one has only 12 on 3/4 tubing. THe header configuration is the same. THe coil is fed by a 3/4 steam line @ 3# through a slow opening H/W zone control. The trap has been checked and appears to be working correctly. I recently reduced the steam flow through the coil which seemed to help. Any suggestions?

Coil stall
A steam coil will not drain all the condensate out or stall after the control valve closes and the trap is closed. The steam collapses causing a vacumm, coil won't completely drain.Try installing a vac. breaker after the conrol valve. The old boys used to install a small 3/8"bypass line around the trap cure stall problems.0
