Good Trinity Application?

I'm looking to back up my heat pumps with a hydronic coil and heat domestic hot water with propane. I have three air handlers (1 per floor) so three zones plus dhw. Is this a good application for a trinity? (BTU's are definitely there)

I'm concerned about the idea of tankless (two showers, two washers, two dishwashers, 6 kids), but what's the best way of beefing up the trinity, to use a standard indirect tank like triangle tube, or to plumb it to a cheap electric like this: http://www.houseneeds.com/shop/HeatingProducts/WaterHeating/AquaStar/AquaStarApplications/IndirectWaterHeating125BL.htm

Bringing the water through the hx in the trinity seems more efficient than the whole tank in tank thing, the electric tank would be cheap to swap out every ten years or so. I suppose if propane costs skyrocketed you could even turn the electric elements back on. Is there any merit to this?

And if any of you trinity experts are near Philadelphia, PA, I have a job for you :).

    Careful

The Trinity does have an option for both heating & domestic...
HOWEVER, even as per factory instructions, an INDIRECT Tank should be used. This is because of the Trinitys Domestic coil design tends to plug up and can provide more hot water if the Domestic is pulled off the heating circuit.

in short: don't use the "dom" model. this is as per factory instructions.

makes me wonder why they bother making a DOM unit.

    Trinity

I have installed many Trinity's and have had great luck with them.I always use an indirect water heater (Aerosa)when the job calls for domestic water.
    Good Luck

The trinity can do a good job in the application you cite - but not with the onboard HX for DHW. The HX is fine for filling a bath or washing clothes but only at 2-3 GPM. With multiple draws and the built in 15 second firing delay even rinsing dishes can be painful. Go with an indirect and pipe at 1" or larger with a good sized circulator and all 6 kids can tap in without temperature drop. Are your delivery temperatures low enough to allow condensing or are you just looking for wall hung? Enjoy....Dan

Good question, I would think that air handlers should allow outside reset and lower temperatures, but maybe the controls to do that aren't up to the task? I might be out of luck on the trinity anyway since there don't seem to be any local installers. I see there is a local dealer (pompetti) that handles both rinnai and munchkin. Maybe one of them will be a good choice.

makes wall hung tankless water heaters. I don't think it's rated for higher temp heating. How about monitor products or Baxi Luna:
