Remote Access to Building Controls

...I would like to get the pro's feedback on this.
If you have a Control System that allows you to remotely access and change the individual room temperature setpoints, what are the benefits and applications where people would actually take advantage of those? Except of large commercial jobs, of course.
I mean, would you ever need to change a room setpoint while you are away from home? Lets say right now a room is at 65°F, would you see any need for, or a good reason why you would like to change the temperature tomorrow to 60°F and the day after to maybe back to 62°F? Basically, changing setpoints over and over to a different temperature throughout a number of days. Keeping in mind you are away the whole time. I don't know?!?
I can see where it may be desired to switch from one setpoint to another via remote control, but is that enough? Basically, have two temperature setpoints. One for when you're home and one when you're not. What do you think?
Again, this is simply for my own knowledge. I am not asking about this for who I work for. "I" simply like to know!

Remote Access
The two systems we have that have that capability are the Enviracom zoning system and the PC8900. Homeowners use this feature a lot if they have shore houses or ski chalets in the mountains. Some are basic, some elaborate, but the typical use is so the house will be cool or warm when you arrive. Give the system a call from your driveway, when you arrive, the place is comfy, lights on etc, or during extreme conditions, you can call to see if the system is ok or it can call out in case of water or gas leaks, low oil or low temperature. Some more sophisticated systems can control landscape and interior lights, entertainment accessories, security devices and the like. This sounds like real high end stuff, and it can be, but a basic control system can be had for a lot less $$$ than most people assume.0 -
Can these systems provide outdoor reset for reseting water temp in a boiler system or are the zone on zone off only?

No, they can't...
but in a system, they function as a super intelligent thermostat. Reset would be provided by by a seperate control like the AQ475,675, or 775. When you call, you can take the system out of setback/setup, change from heat to cool or change setpoint. More elaborate systems can control other functions.0 -
my house uses hai home automation and allows me to set the temps from the phone or the internet while away. The boiler controls are not efected only the stats. It will also call me if the temps go outside peramiters that have been set.The system also shuts the heat off in the garage if the doors have been left opened. You can control anything you can think up.As far as using the system we use the systen daily and could not do without at ths point.0 -
