PE Gas Yard Piping

Most of our work is inside building, but every now and then we have to run a gas service to a remote location, like a detached cottage or an addition at the back of the house.
PE pipe (SDR 11) is a lot easier to use than wrapped iron although you've got to bury it deeper (18" instead of 12") and you have to attach a tracer wire to it so that it can be located later. You also have to buy PE to steel transition risers since exposed pipe has to be steel.
Butt fusion is the method of attachment; a 500° iron is held to both ends for 15 seconds, the iron is removed and the two ends are held together for 60 seconds. After the pipe has cooled, the joint is stronger than the pipe.
Wonderful stuff.
