Another Munchkin concern

with the Minchkin and sell it whenever aI can. I have one that has caused intermitant problems with F09 errors. There is always a rusty flame rod which when cleaned makes the unit run fine. I was up on the roof Sunday, after Church, watching the flu gas come out of the vertical vent, after cleaning the flame rod with steel wool yet again. It looks like it is possible that when the wind blows from the right direction, over the crown of the front of the Row house, it causes a downdraft right where the vent pipes are and may be causing recirculation of some flu gas. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this possible? The vent is 3 feet above the intake tee. I am going back with some PVC and re-configuring the terminations on Wens. Time will tell if this is the problem or not. Please share if you have any input. WW

    flame rod issue

My experience with the munchkin is limited but check that the condensate trap loop is lower than the boiler outlet. "Saving" condensate in the combustion chamber can give you that condition. Dan

    flame rod

I have had the same problems but only on when I have not used the factory barb x barb condensate fitting. I noticed that the top of the barb fitting has a small pin hole after the trap which I believe prevents the condensate from air trap. The small amount of water in the combustion chamber will steam and coat the flame sensor. I have drilled a small hole in the top of my pvc condensate lines, after the trap and have not had the F09 calls. Patrick

    For that drain connection

I like John Wood's idea of using a pex barbed tee as a connection point to that rubber hose out the back. You may still want to use a plastic one for condensate acidity issues. Most plumbing supply houses, or hardware stores have ploastic barbed fittings.

Toss that plastic barbed coupling with the elusuve pin hole :) This assures you don't have that "pin hole" issue.

Seems to me even if installed properly that pin hole could "fuzz" closed, over time.

THE HOLE IN THE BARB IS AN ANTI SYPHIN FIX

SO JOHNS IDEA WILL WORK FINE AND I HAVE SEEN IT DONE MANY TIMES NOT OLY ON THE MUNVHKIN BUT MANY OTHER CONDESING UNITS.
