    pressure gauges with smaller scales

Try Daughtridge Sales in NC 800 334-9720 they have gauges in inches of water column. Ak for a 60" gauge, that's a little over 2 lbs. I got burned on gauges made in China, there are some US made for about $30. You have to interpolate inches to pounds, but are very accurate

    Pressuretrol setting

The standard 0-10 psi pressuretrol will never be terribly accurate because the diaphram is too small to reflect ounces of pressure. However, Honeywell mAkes a line of pressuretrols called vaporstats. One model is good for 0-1.5 pounds. Another is good at 0-5 and are very accurate for normal steam systems.

We have a trick to make the "standard" 0-10 p.s.i. more useful and accurate but it requires slight bending of the lever tab to close the gap between the tab and the microswitch pin. By opening the angle of the tab a hair the microswitch is tripped at as little as 1 psi!

If you go too far however, you basically toasted a $50. control. The vaporstat is the right way to go - unless you know what we know - and the liabilities involved.

I fear your stretching of the spring has damaged the control to the point of total compromise.

    Low pressure gauges

try McMaster Carr ( http://www.mcmaster.com ) and search for "Low Pressure Steel-Case Diaphragm Gauges" They have 0-10 to 0-160 oz/sq in, 0-3 to 0-10 psi, and 0-10 to 0-200 inch of water, 2.5" diameter rear and bottom connection units, about $45. You my be able to findd them locally at a good plumbing or industrial hardware wholesaler for less though. Another to try is MSC ( http://www.mscdirect.com )

Honeywell L408A Vaporstats in 0-16 oz/in. sq. (0-1 psi) and 0-4 psi range, either of which will allow more accurate setting than their pressuretrols at low pressures w/o haveing to resort to tweaking (read: tampering) with the internals.
