    Me first!

I have loved and hated this business for 22 years. Mostly and thankfully, loved it first. The on call and Saturday and sunday billing and catchup is a drag sometimes but I still seem to enjoy being there. My wife sometimes wonders who I am although. This business of, "I am not paid what I deserve is beyond me". We pay our guys well. They are on call about every 6 weeks. They get a token 50 dollar answering fee. I never saw that when we worked for the man instead of being the man. I hope all the future workers in our industry realize that this is a good business and the rewards of the thankfull customers and the pretty good lifestyle outweigh the minimal discomfort that comes with doing what we do. I am grateful of my life. I hope you are too. TS

    I feel...

with my finger tips mostly. They're one of the most sensitive parts of my body. I have fine tuned the art of Oooh, Ahhhh testing to the point of knowing when and when NOT to put your hand on a pipe BEFORE the hand meets the pipe...so as to avoid a major AHHHH!!!!

Other than that, I LOVE my job:-)

Welcome back Dan and TLM. Do I smell coconut oil??

    I love \"the business\" and the craft

it is some people that spoil the day sometimes. Me and the pipes - we get along great. It is the adminisrative end and dealing will the bozos that gets to ya. I am grateful every day of my life for the skills that GOD has bestowed upon me, my wife Barbara, My two midgets monkeys, Monika and Matt Jr., and that my mom continues to beat the crap out of the cancer. Let's face it

the service end of our buisness is a challange. Have you ever had a customer call and say "I have an extra 10 grand lying around, I'd like to upgrade my heating system" Generally not! Most often a panic call, un- budgeted, unforseen, unwanted hassles.

So right from the inital call you are dealing with bummed customers, that want to spend the least amount possible. Folks are home at night, as such most of the no heat calls will be evening calls.

You need to get in the mindset that this is the way it is, and is going to be, in our profession. You can make the best of it and find a company that appreciates and pays what you feel is fair for the task.

Orrrrr, find another profession. McDonalds seems to always be hiring. Steady hours, benefits, etc.

Even with the after hour hassle, I still enjoy what I do and appreciate the other professionals out there that feel the same. Many of them hang here!

"The mind is like a parachute, it performs best when open". Saw that on a bumper sticker yesterday.

    H2O

I love the challenge, the pipes, the bummed customers, the many and strange things that screw up, the wet, the cold, the ability to solve the problem at hand, the thankfull customer. I dont like insurance, paperwork, beaurocrats,or people that think I have it easy because I'm self employed.
Mad dog, good luck to your Mom. Love her and support her.Nothing is more important than family. I just had a scare with my mom and dad but both had good outcomes. I just had a tumor removed from my forehead. Thats why I have had more time on the wall. When people see my bandaged head I tell them I had a lobotomy. Keep on smiling.
