steam baseboards

I have a 1910 victorian and a one pipe steam system. Can I switch my radiator to baseboard and can you recommend where to get the baseboard specifically for steam, if they make such a thing. If there isn't one for steam can I convert a hot water base board and cap the return w/ a vent? I don't have enough room for a radiator and want to put a small 3' baseboard. I know it won't throw as much heat as a radiator but that's not that important for this room. Also have you ever heard of a kickspace heater for steam. That would be idea for what I'm doing.

Andy, unless you do two-pipe, forget baseboard. You are about to make the mistake that "the knuckleheads" often do. Save yourself alot of time, aggravation, and money and getr a real steam man in there, Mad Dog

Burnham has it...I know of no kickspace for steam...kpc

steam baseboard can be OK

Noel from Slant-Fin said last year that steam baseboard with one-pipe steam is fine as long as you don't over do it. I think he said that a eight foot section on one-pipe steam was the maximum.

It can work if everything else is perfect.......................

header and near boiler piping, returns, main vents, et cetera, but this is a rarity in most houses. They usually always spit some water because of the lack internal space like a free standing radiator has to separate steam and condensate. Steam is quirky enough, I avoid things that can be questionable. Mad Dog
