    old mansion broomell update

I used Dan's books, and worked out an EDR of 2045 actual plus a 50% pickup resulting in an estimate of 3000 EDR. Against this, I have an 18 section W-M LGB 15 Boiler(with a 47-2 and a 61 low water cutoff) which has a capacity of 3.6 million btu's(I am assuming 200,000 btu's per section-someone please correct me)or an EDR of 9500. The system cycle time is now 25 minutes....down from 60 minutes, because of 5 Gorton #2's and 2 Hoffman 75's...steam still takes 10 minutes to clear the mains, but at least you can see things are looking up....I am thinking of removing sections(again, assuming 200,000 btu's per section)...will keep some as spares, and maybe use some for my greenhouse. Thoughts? Also, is Mr. Kensil still alive?

    LGB-15 capacity

is 1,820,000 btu/hr input and 1,474,000 gross output. Not quite as oversized as you may have thought for the radiation, but probably for the heat load. BTW, I believe it can be step fired at 50% capcity if this may be beneficial. The LGB at my church has been running on low fire only(50%) for 3 winters now.

If I have 18 sections, I think I have 2 lgb 15's, not one...I believe the output of 1.4 refers only to 9 sections and not 18......boilerpro, am I wporking this through correctly, and how could one stepfire?

    Check with Weil

But I believe they have two stage gas valves. Pilot is lit, pilot flame proved, 1st stage opens, flame is proved, and then second stage opens. I just disconnected the power wire to the second stage terminal.

LGB-18 has 18 sections, 2210 Input, 1790 out, 2 gas trains according to my literature.

called W-M....thank you Boilerpro.....they think it is an lgb-18(because of the number of sections..they said to count the burners, divide by2 and add 1 to determne the correct niumber of sections...they don't like 2 stage gas valves....I guess because of warranty issues.....more later...John

The two stage gas valves are factory

equipment of the two small LGB's (a 7 and a 9, I believe). The bigger ones may be different.
