Yet to install either but I have a job coming up w/ a few. Since I don't have the instructions yet I was curious what side of the boiler (boiler in or boiler out) does either of these companies what the pump on.

Primary
on the return.
To date, I have not piped an 80m P/S. We've always had zones with enough flow.
140's and 199's will require P/S to maintain proper flow through the boiler.
140's need a 0010 or equivalent, 199's need a 0011 or equal.
Hope this helps!

Is this because of the internal pressure switch that they want you pumping into the boiler?

I never asked
to be honest.
All of the piping diagrams show the Primary pumping into the boiler, in fact, most of the P/S piping schematics I have seen show it there as well.
Which are you using, Peerless or Munchkin?

Yes, due to pressure switch...
and not wanting the boiler to see any potential negative pressure which could cause hot spots and steam flash at the ehat exchanger. Just follow the manufacturers piping instructions and you'll get along just fine.

Love Them ...
I like the Munchkin due to the 925 control with the vision kit. Read the instructions well and take a vision class.
I find the hardest thing about them is the venting requirements. I have had a couple of jobs that could not be done due to the venting requirements.
Pump size is the next thing. Make sure you use the proper size pumps.
If you couldnt tell I love the little Munchkin. I have many many nice things to say about them. Just follow the instructions very well.

What type of venting issues
seems they are very flexible. I hear some guys are venting them into two 1-1/2" PVC Y-ed together when old Hydropulses are removed. The factory has some info for using smaller or longer venting and taking an BTU output hit.

What a great idea about those Y's. It's funny you say that because I am replacing 6 Hydropulses w/ 3 Pinnacels soon. I actually took delivery on them today and we started our near boiler piping on them.

My former company
has done a bunch of condos that had 2 hydropulse 100,000 per unit.
These HP's used 1-1/2" PVC for vent and intake. They are going back with one 140 Munchkin. They Y the two 1-1/2 intakes and the two 1-1/2" exhaust together into 3X1-1/2X1-1/2 PVC Y's. With factory blessing, I believe
What a great retro fit. Not too many replacements for those 1-1/2" Hydropulses vent systems.
Make sure you label the old intake and exhaust. The roof or wall terminations are different for intake and exhaust.

venting
Its sort of funny in that on first glance, pvc pipe for venting seems to be the easiest way to go. Unfortunately, on older houses with lots of windows and/or tight setbacks from sidelot lines, sidewall venting can be difficult to accomplish. Add in the necessity for equal lengths on intake and exhaust, and you further limit creative ideas.
I'll have to remember that 1 1/2 y trick. If it doesnt't penalize the length restriction too much, it would be a nice option.
