steam boiler making screeching noise

This morning my steam boiler started making a loud high-pitched screeching noise. It seems to be coming from the burners. I don't think all the burners are lighting, there are no flames on the left (in front at least) and looks like soot on the grill there (much more than the rest of the grill). There are red flames among the blue. I've turned off the heat, at least until my family leaves the house. We have "Worry-Free Contract" with our local utility, which apparently means "We have your money so we don't have to worry"...they'll stroll out here sometime tomorrow. Does anyone have an opinion on whether it is safe to turn it back on? The boiler is a Utica PEG 150C.

DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON!!!!

You have a serious problem and that uniyt should not be put back into operation until a qualified service tech looks it over.

Do not make the mistake of turning it back on.

If you can, take pictures of your install. Out of curiousity I took a look at my BIL's PSE&G-installed PEG 150C yesterday. No equaliser, no blow-down valve, no di-electric unions between copper and black pipe, etc. The main vents had been removed for pipe plugs by the "worry-free" service.
