Radiator problems
hello - having radiator problems. 2nd floor of 4 story brownstone. One radiator not getting hot but all others in that "line" are really hot. another radiator on the same level only gets hot along the top? system is fine otherwise except knucklehead says i do not have enough pressure and that boiler is too small.
any pros out there with advice?0 -
Is this
a steam or hot-water system?

When is the last time you changed your radiator vents , they go bad. An adjustable Dole and Gortons can be used to balance the system . If you live there doles are good bu not for tennants as they mess with them. If it at bldg ends it could be main or return vents are bad. Im sure you boiler is large enough it just needs adjustment and balancing throgh venting.0 -
sorry not a pro. I just put in a main air valve. when you say vent on the radiator do you me the air vents on the end?0 -
hey ransley - how are you sure my boiler is big enough. my knucklehead says it is too small and "pressure too low"0 -
It's rare to see
an undersized steam boiler, though it does happen. Many are too big.
As Mad Dog says, what you really need is a pro. If you're in NYC, why not just call Mad Dog? He really knows his steam- well enough to build a steam system from scratch!

thanks for the advise. I have sent Mad Dog an email. I want to try to fix the easy and common problems myself though.
Should I still be checking the valves or vents on the radiators? I am pretty sure they are fairly new0
