have a millivolt system? is the pilot clean (nice blue flame) od is it candling (soft and yellow) what is the output? is it a combination valve?

On a millivolt system a pilot provides ALL the power. make sure all connections are clean and the pilot is too.

Good luck. post more info for better answers tho. make and model is the minimum.

My pilot is lit but my burners don't ignite when the temp. drops below the thermostat setting. Oh, it came on yesterday when I got mad and hit the control valve with a wrench.(where the gas knob and thermocouple is) This morning that doesn't work either. Any ideas as to whats not working?

Two things can be wrong. Either you main burner gas valve is bad or you are not sensing flame. Well I guess three things you might not be getting power to you main gas valve
  • What is the Make

and number on the control you hit and made it work. Depending on the type of gas vale any number of things can be wrong. You may have a system that does not shut off pilot gas when the thermocople fails only main burner. I need some good info on what controls you have and I will be able to give you an answer.

    pilot lit, but not burner

Just some food for thought. Most gas boilers come with an automatic vent, that must be open. They also have at least one, mostly two safety switches, one is a flame roll out switch, and the other is a flue gas spill switch. You might want to check these out, continuity test works. Hope it helps...good luck

Pilot alight but won't light main burner

Hope you didn't swear at the boiler, That's one of the worse things you can do. Boiler are very senistive and you may have to pacsify it and talk nicely to it before you can even start to make head way.
May be quicker to call in a pro and stay away from the boiler room while he talks the boiler around.
