Smell from radiator

Member Posts: 10
I just installed a new radiator (that's very large) and it is emitting a strange smell. Any suggestions of what could be wrong, or what I can do to eliminate the smell? Thanks

Was it painted ?
Could be paint heating off, or if not, could be the oils used in the manufactuirng process. Wait a day or two and see if it go's away.
Besides that are you missing a hamster ?

Could it be the paint even though it doesn't smell when the radiator is off? It was not a new radiator--it was used--although, it could have been newly painted.
And I don't think I'm missing a hamster0 -
stinker
I stripped and painted my radiators last summer and thay gave off some odor for a while this heating season. (Hot water system) The odor was strongest when it first got really cold outside and the radiators finally reached their max temperatures . I figured that any remaining solvents in the paint were baking out. Not only the paint but could also be any residual chemical that they may have used to strip the old paint.0
