We are just finishing off the rough wiring for a radiant system. HO wamts stats at 65 inches off the floor. Does she know something I don't about stat placement or perhaps a new theory about sensed heat? what say the wallies re the perfect tstat height above the floor?

Could it be that.....
....she is planning for a future wheel-chair-bound occupant? If that is the case, the lower mounting height might be better.

to the regular Wallies. Whats a few inches among friends?0 -
54\" by ADA
For accessibility, controls can't be higher than 54". This is from the ADA Guidelines, for wheelchair access.0 -
that's a good point...(nm)

ADA requires
54" for controls at a sideways reach from wheelchairs and 48" reaching forward. I set T-stats at 60" because it is typically about eye-high for an 'average' person. I'm an average 5'9" person and Sandy is an average 5'4" lady. In a commercial application where control access to the general population is allowed (ie- any employee can touch the T-stat), then ADA would be the ruling force. I've been involved in many ADA issues. Single family dwellings, churches, certain private clubs/associations are exempt from ADA. Still, another consideration in your 'home to grow old in'. Greg0 -
My clients are both tall people - about 6 foot. It's been my experince that a tstat about 50 - 55 inches above the floor is about right for the comfort of the space. Just thought I'd ask the wallies if ideas or installation specs had dramatically changed on the last few months. Thanks
